The Relationship Between Internal and External Chi Fields
By Master Mingtong Gu and Jaelle Dragomir
“Chi (Qi)” is the energy that sustains all life and holds the key to health and longevity. “Gong” refers to the daily practice and ability involved in cultivating mind and energy. Qigong is a 5000-year-old art form and newly revitalized science originating in China. Wisdom Healing™ Qigong, called Zhineng, is one of the most powerful systems of Qigong and means “cultivating wisdom energy.” By practicing and cultivating Qigong, we can heal ourselves in all dimensions of the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects. Over the last 25 years, the Wisdom Healing Qigong form has been researched clinically and through experiments in the largest Qigong Healing Center in China. As documented in many Chinese scientific journals, this hospital has a high success rate of treating over 185 wide-ranging diseases and curing over 200,000 patients.
Qigong Masters and Masters of other ancient traditions discovered that nature’s laws are based on the realization of the existence of invisible and intangible energy called “chi”. Today, quantum physics re-discovered the same laws and exposed the limitation of conventional science due to its use of indirect observation. It is by way of direct experience, through Qigong, that enables us to perceive the invisible and intangible energy and penetrate the quantum field of nature.
In addition to the above realization is the realization that internal chi in the body and external chi in the universe are a reflection of each other. The traditional Tao speaks of the body as a microcosmic universe, totally affecting the external universe. This realization is profoundly important in the transformation of life. New science, including quantum physics and the discovery of DNA, has validated the long traditional knowledge that our inner state (mind, emotion and body) has profound consequences on our DNA and the subtle energy field around us. This same energy field connects and re-creates all existence including human beings thus we can tap into the chi field and experience the laws of nature.
The essential universal cosmological system is to validate the earth and heaven as one existence with the human being an embodiment of earth and heaven. So for us to live to our fullest potential physically, emotionally, and mentally, we need to follow the way of nature.
So how are we to follow the way of nature? There are many ways and Qigong is one of the most effective. Yoga, meditation and spiritual practices all work with the energy field because they help us recognize that which exists beyond our perceived, limited existence. Also, when we sleep we are working with the Chi. The mind and body are in a more relaxed state, so the energy body is not as contracted and the exchange of energy between the body and the rest of the energy field happens more fluently. This relaxed state can promote rest and vitality. However, sleep is more of a habitual process than a practice.
"Wonderful - my body, mind, spirit and emotion all together drank in chi" Nancy E, Ashland
Practiced in the state of awareness, the Qigong method uses the conscious mind to guide the body to relax while remaining alert. In this awake, yet completely relaxed state, one can amplify the energy which promotes well-balanced functioning of the physical body. As a result, health benefits come naturally. Additionally, when we are consciously practicing Qigong, the most important aspect is activated: the connection of mind and body. As we allow our minds to participate with the process of life within our bodies we start to perceive the energy body.
What is the benefit of perceiving the human body as an energetic system? Whenever we are encountering physical problems such as illness, disease, low energy, depression and so forth, we can look into the energetic cause. The beauty of working with energy is that we can consciously change our energy patterns. The more subtle layers of energy we work with, the easier we can change the problem. In a deep sense, Qigong is Quantum physics technology. On the subtle level it is works with the mind and the energy’s transformation of physical phenomena.
"I could feel the tangible love of collected energy field as Master Gu guided hundreds of people! " George Anton, M.D
On the other hand, the more solid we perceive the energy, the more challenging it will be to change the problem. So our perception plays a very important role because the more we perceive the subtle energy the more empowered we become to make positive changes in our health and life. That is why it is very important in our Qigong practice that in the first stage we let go of our old perception of our body as a physically solid, stable condition. Once we start to open to the energy that exists beyond the solid, beyond the tangible, we start to perceive the conditions beyond the physical illness and we find the freedom to transform and change our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies.
Depending on what approach we take, what gradually happens in our energy practice is that we start to recognize a deeper layer of our body not just the surface of our body, not just the skin. Indeed, many layers of existence within the body become apparent; organs, glands, blood vessels, tissues and cells. Additionally, we become aware of the transparent qualities, holographic qualities and meridian channels. Eventually, we become aware of the energy field and many energy centers in the body and of our energy centers continuously expanding out to the universal energy field.
"It is most heart healing, opening, compassion, and growing experience. I am 60 years old and feel now like a beginning to truly live an inner authentic life." Sandra Karas, CO
Sometimes it is too complex for us to recognize this more subtle body in the beginning stage of practice, so gradually we start to experience ourselves as an energetic body. That same force the same force that’s inside us? around our energy body is expanding and contracting while simultaneously lines of energy, vertically and horizontally, inside us, expand and contract. Additionally, each of our chakras has energy extending out from our body that connects all of us more strongly. We can experience our Dantien (main energy center of the holistic energy body) connecting to all Dantiens; our heart chakra connecting to all heart chakras; our conscious centers connecting to all conscious centers directly. When we recognize our energy centers and gradually start connecting our own energy body with the universal energies, we become a pillar of light between heaven and earth.
"I feel as if I automatically plug myself to a super battery everytime when I practice Qigong." Ellie C, Ashland
It doesn’t matter if we consciously choose to connect with others or not, we will. That is the nature of energy. That universal coding is built into our energy body, so the more we amplify that connection the more we experience the Oneness. The practice of Wisdom Healing Qigong method opens us up, not just deeply inside our energy channels, but also to the external chi field. Most of the time we’re working with the energy pattern of contraction and expansion, (like whole body breath in, breath out). If we think of our energy body like a drop of water merging into the ocean, then we can perceive our body as more open and easily visualize our body becoming part of that chi field. Especially in the Lift-Chi-Up-Pour-Chi-Down (LCUPCD) Method in Wisdom Healing Qigong; we may feel like the physical body has literally disappeared ‘as it becomes part of a larger pool’ or something. Our body is so light that it transcends any point of physical reference. Sometimes when we open our eyes we are surprised, “Oh, I’m still here. I still have a body!” Because our perception is in that timeless, space-less, pure energy state, between heaven and earth, in that energy field encompassing all phenomena.
The universal energy field is unfathomable, so to recognize the external chi field’s influence is profoundly important. The Wisdom Healing Qigong method allows us to see a much larger picture of existence, and allows us to focus on the external source of creative energy field while going deeply into the internal energy body. Using direct observation, via the body and mind, the true knowledge of nature, discovered by the ancient traditions as a whole, is preserved and provides an alternative to conventional science.
Qigong was kept a secret in the long history of China until 30 years ago. It is the secret behind the secret, as found in the movie, The Secret. It offers keys to open the secret door. In the next issue we will continue to explore the relationship between Qigong and The Secret.
"I never knew about Chi before this retreat and learned how to create wonderful experiences in my life because of it." Julie H, San Diego
Qigong is a very accessible and simple practice that can be easily understood. It can apply to and is beneficial to all modalities ofhealing as well as all faith traditions. Imagine if everyone projected the intention of peace, happiness and wellbeing to the leaders of our country and our world. The implication is profound. President-elect Obama has brought so much healing to this country already. It is like a crisis in our body can bring deep healing to our life. In the larger scale, the world is reflecting who we are as collective human beings. The change can happen and peace can be present when we dedicate more to the inner transformation of this collective human. It brings us so much peace by doing our small part of the BIG WORK.
Finally, Master Gu wants to share his excitement that the coming year will be the time of deep healing for our country and earth. Qigong is growing in popularity in the USA due to the need for a healing solution beyond conventional medicine. “Thank you and I wish you all fulfillment of your heart’s intention! When we are in harmony, our family, our country and planet will be in harmony.”
Master Gu has helped his students in healing from cancer, kidney disease, allergies, MS, back pain and many other diseases through the practice of Wisdom Healing Qigong. He received the highest level of training from Dr. Pang Ming, director of the famous medicine-less hospital in China, the Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Center near Beijing where Wisdom Healing Qigong was developed. Master Gu is a volunteer faculty at UCSD School of Medicine. He is offering healing events and trainings in California (up coming workshop on Feb.28-March 1, at UC Berkeley, see the advertisement on the back cover).
